Voting Question: Who will the Red Sox sign this offseason?
With the Boston Red Sox losing many players, (Jeff Bailey, Rocco Baldelli, Jason Bay, Paul Byrd, Fernando Cabrera, Joey Gathright, Alex Gonzalez, Nick Green, Hunter Jones, Takashi Saito, Jonathan Van Every, and maybe Billy Wagner) they have more than a few spaces that need to be filled. I also hear JD Drew will be packing his bags soon too. Who do you think they will sign? They luckily have plenty of money this offseason especially. I hear Jon Lackey rumors which would be a good start. But think about Lowell and his age? We could use some players like Chone Figgins or maybe even a Melvin Mora to start at 3rd? What about a Vladimir Guerrero or Jermaine Dye over a JD Drew? Also looking into a Rich Harden if Jon Lackey doesn’t fall through? Also I think we need to trade Jonathan Papelbon and look into an up rising Rafael Soriano? Maybe a trade for Carl Crawford? As we definately need some outfielders and a shortstop (Jed Lowrie really doesn’t cut it) we need to look out for players like Orlando Cabrera and worst case scenario Miguel Tejada. Not to many free agent shortstops that’s when Theo works his magic to get us a great shortstop like maybe Troy Tulowitzki and sending over Jonathan Papelbon? For outfielders we need to look at trades if we can’t obtain Jason Bay, Matt Holiday, Jermaine Dye or Vladimir Guerrero. thats what im looking at e man thanks
Open Question: do u find it crazy that raul gonzalez of real madrid can’t make it in the spanish team nemore…….?
…….. but still plays wonderful football 4 his club? i know he has fernando torres, david villa and guiza in his path, but this man is a legend and is still a very great football player at the highest level. can u even believe that he never played at all in the euros, yet spain won that competition with flying colours!!??? it just goes 2 show how dangerous the spanish are nowadays that they can win a tournament without somebody of his calibre, but now hez back 2 his best agen dus ne1 think he will get the nod 2 go 2 africa next summer?
Resolved Question: What do you think the Mets should do about their problems this off season?
Personally, I think that they should try to sign Lackey and maybe a Joel Pineiro or Jason Marquis type player. For a set up man I think they should try to sign a closer, this is a great class of closers and they could end up getting a guy like Fernando Rodney for cheap because of the depth to this class; Rodney also provides a proven closer in case of an injury to K-Rod. I think that if their offense comes back healthy then they’re not in bad shape. I think they should give Delgado a 1 year, incentive laden contract with a team option for the next year, maybe just to stall for Ike Davis with a guy who has a big bat or maybe he’ll play like he did at the end of the 2008 season and the Mets get a great deal - he’s a low risk high reward type sign this off season. Another option is to try to trade for Adrian Gonzalez but that’s probably not going to happen. There have been talks about Castillo going to the dodgers but I don’t think he’s that bad, his .387 OBP, ability to steal, smart base running and normally solid glove are nothing to be ashamed of, in fact they’re all well above average. If he does get traded Orlando Hudson would probably be signed and he is a very good player and he brings a blue-collar hard working mentality to the field. An option for second base that most people haven’t considered is talking to Toronto about trading for Aaron Hill; Toronto is in a rebuilding phase and the Mets are kind of in a win now mode and Hill would be a huge asset. He’s a great fielder and a big power bat. He would be almost like a Chase Utley to the Mets, no I’m not saying he’s as good as Utley, but he brings power at a normally ‘weak’ position. The Mets don’t have the prospects for Halladay but they should at least have enough for Hill. I also think that they should sign Bengie Molina for a one year deal (to get involved in the Mauer chase next year), he is a legitimate power hitting catcher and Omir Santos did well but he’s not a starting quality catcher (most likely). If these all of these moves were made the roster would look like this. C: Bengie Molina 1B: Carlos Delgado 2B: Aaron Hill SS: Jose Reyes 3B: David Wright LF: Carl Crawford CF: Carlos Beltran RF: Jeff Franceour SP: Johan Santana SP: John Lackey SP: Jason Marquis SP: John Maine SP: Oliver Perez - unfortunately RP: Pedro Feliciano RP: Nelson Figueroa RP: Bobby Parnell RP: Brian Stokes RP: Pat Misch SU: Fernando Rodney CL: Francisco Rodriguez That’s not realistic though, a more realistic roster would look like this. C: Bengie Molina 1B: Carlos Delgado/Daniel Murphy 2B: Orlando Hudson/Luis Castillo/Aaron Hill SS: Jose Reyes 3B: David Wright LF: I don’t know for sure, as of now it looks like Angel Pagan CF: Carlos Beltran RF: Jeff Franceour SP: Johan Santana SP: John Lackey SP: Joel Pineiro SP: John Maine SP: Oliver Perez Bullpen is the same as mentioned before. What do you think that they can/should do? Do you think Ben Sheets would be a good sign with an incentive-laden contract?
